Students Win Grand Achievement Award In Citywide Science Fair

Mesa Middle School eighth graders Abel Montez and Stacy Garner won Grand Achievement Awards at the Rowsell Independent School District Citywide Science Fair held at Goddard High School. Their project Are Fractions Obsolete explored decimals through surveys of ages 11 to 15 and 18 to 71, finding decimals easier to simplify for both groups. Other winners include seventh grader Daniel Alley and sixth grader Beth Waldrip with projects on water flow and calculator use, and fifth grader Kay Lilley with handwriting and personality indicators.

County funds questioned in Moorhead road project

County Commissioner Sam A. Moorhead allegedly pulled a county crew from a $19,000 state job to regrade and resurface a 4.4 mile road to his ranch north of Elkins. The Daily Record found a $20,000 to $30,000 project used county workers and equipment for two weeks on a road serving Moorhead’s ranch.
