The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the Consumer Price Index jumped eight tenths of one percent in February, the largest monthly rise since February 1951. Food prices rose 2.2 percent with grocery store foods up 2.4 percent, the steepest on record, and meats, poultry and fish up five percent.
Two F111 swing wing fighters collided during a night training mission near Holbrook Arizona. Maj William W Gude Maj Richard L Brehm Capt William T Halloran and Capt David C Blackledge were identified as the four killed. Bodies found near the wreckage about three miles west of Holbrook Municipal Airport. The crash occurred at 9 21 p m under snow and low clouds with no determined cause.
District Court Judge H. Vern Payne gives Albuquerque 20 days to schedule a recall election for Municipal Judge Harry Robbins. In Washington the Supreme Court upholds local property taxes for schools in a 5 to 4 ruling, stating education is not constitutionally protected.
Glover Inc announces acquisition of a 35,000 head Roswell cattle feedlot on a lease purchase with a May 6 1974 option to buy for 1.2 million. The program adds a 215 acre facility near the Roswell plant to secure fat cattle and boost profits as Glover remodels its Roswell operations with a new slaughter facility and expanded beef and pork output.
In Roswell Independent School District a second year nursing assistant class blends classroom study with hands on hospital and nursing home work. Led by RN Barbara Fulton the 15 student program emphasizes attitude achievement and attendance to qualify.
A Goddard DECA survey and the RCDC Retail Council compare Roswell resident opinions. In 1973 883 of 1,678 surveys returned plus 78 of 121 Spanish surveys. retirees 117 of 200. Most say Roswell is desirable to live 93 percent, and 85 percent deem it desirable to visit.
