In Oakland Maryland Roy Dillworth a 32 year old farmhand weighing 140 pounds is credited with saving Mr and Mrs Bell Friend during a fire that destroyed their home about 18 miles north of Oakland Fire Chief Emroy Bolden noted Dillworth guided Mrs Friend from an upstairs room where she collapsed and then carried the 62 pound invalid husband to safety.

A Continental Airlines Convair 340 en route El Paso to Tulsa made a forced landing four minutes after takeoff from Midland. Pilot H. E.
