Farmhand Saves Elderly Couple in Maryland Fire

In Oakland Maryland Roy Dillworth a 32 year old farmhand weighing 140 pounds is credited with saving Mr and Mrs Bell Friend during a fire that destroyed their home about 18 miles north of Oakland Fire Chief Emroy Bolden noted Dillworth guided Mrs Friend from an upstairs room where she collapsed and then carried the 62 pound invalid husband to safety.

Garden Clubs Seek Stance on Court House Parking Plan

Chaves County Council of Garden Clubs mails a March 13 letter to Roswell city and county commissioner candidates. It urges replies within three days on using Court House grounds for extra parking, noting urgency and promising continuation on page six.

Fortunate mother takes boy to see doctor in town

In Chicopee masses, Mrs Rene Cote took her son Armand to a doctor's office for a tonsil checkup. When Armand balked, she opened her mouth to show the doctor a throat exam. The doctor glanced and said the mother will need tonsil surgery too.

Cont plane forced down near Midland injures few

A Continental Airlines Convair 340 en route El Paso to Tulsa made a forced landing four minutes after takeoff from Midland. Pilot H. E. Persing and one passenger were slightly hurt. other crew and eight passengers were shaken. The left wing tore off as the plane slid a half mile across pasture on the Scharbauer Cattle Co. ranch. Fire crews cordoned the site. no fire occurred and gasoline fumes filled the air.

Nicholas Tells Of Trip at Farm Bureau Meeting

About 65 members of the Chaves County Farm and Livestock Bureau heard Carl Nicholas report on his Washington trip at the regular monthly meeting at the Berrendo School. 4-H Club members presented a skit on 4-H history and purpose. George Stockton discussed castor bean planting in diverted cotton acreage. Oscar Kunkel emphasized growing Farm Bureau membership. R K Harlan announced a March 18 meeting at the Chamber of Commerce to discuss underground water problems in New Mexico.

Citizens Vote on School Bond Issue in Roswell

Roswell voters go to polls to decide a 215000 bond request from the Board of Education. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Funds will finish elementary school construction and build a new school at South Washington Avenue and Chisum Street. Polling place is the Junior High School. Any real property owner may vote.

Senate Rules Committee voted 5-4 to urge the Senate to unseat Sen. Chavez of New Mexico over alleged irregularities in the 1952 election. If Chavez is removed, Gov.
