Reunion cheers as father meets son at airport

Roswell ESY study costs and future funding options

ESY expenditures total 16764 this year with a 30700 Title III grant. Roswell ISD ESY director Robert Wilson says a second year could cost up to 74400 for curriculum evaluation and that there are no plans for a third year unless merit justifies full three-year funding.

Fort Stockton Bridge Plans Sighted Yet Financing Lacking

Texas Highway Department had ready plans to replace the 22 foot wide Fort Stockton bridge on U S 290 with dual 42 foot structures but funding was frozen by Nixon era impoundment. Bids were set for next month, though no money exists to proceed.

Moriarty High Students Walk Out Over School Board Actions

About 400 Moriarty High School students left classes Friday to protest the board’s decisions at Thursday night meeting. The board did not renew the high school principal or district superintendent contracts and accepted resignations from ten staff members. Meanwhile Lordsburg defeated Eunice 82 to 56 to reach the Class AA championship in Albuquerque.

Agreement in principle reached at Wounded Knee standstill

The Justice Department said it reached an agreement in principle with militants at Wounded Knee but said procedural issues remain before ending the 11 day occupation. About 200 Indians seized the hamlet February 27 as gunfire exchanges occurred and two Indians were wounded.

The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed the Racing Commission rules on post race testing and trainer accountability. Johnnie L. Jamison, suspended as Sunland Park trainer after urine tests showed vitalin in Texas Sun, lost his appeal challenging the rules as unconstitutional.
