Night guard snakes deter burglary at New Orleans gas station

Herman the 6 foot Brazilian boa constrictor guards Plaza Towers Texaco with Wade Montgomery the chief boa handler. The pair, along with an unnamed 40 foot boa, deterred burglars by coiling around shelves and the water cooler while customers sleep. A window sign warns of a 12 foot boa.

Turnout Heavily Shapes Roswell City Elections

Roswell voters cast ballots in a high turnout for mayor and city council with fire stations 3 and 5 reporting 685 votes by 11 30 a m. Precincts across the city showed strong early participation while mayoral candidates Brock Beagles Stiles Ferguson predicted turnout effects and campaign ads drew attention.

Attorney General Toney Anaya accused the Gas Co. of New Mexico of making inaccurate statements about its rate hike request. He said the company misrepresented its reasons noting a mild winter and conservation by homeowners, and asserted a substantial increase is due to anticipated conservation efforts.

Miners Face Bread Cut If They Defy Taft Hartley Injunction

President Carter plans a court injunction to force striking coal miners back to work under Taft Hartley. If any member refuses, their household could lose food stamp benefits. Federal officials will issue state telegrams to terminate eligibility if illegal work stoppages persist. Food stamp use rose during the 92 day coal strike with spillover into West Virginia Ohio and Indiana.
