Methane fuel of future by a Roswell fifth grader wins big

Mitchell Lee, 12, a sixth grade student at Washington Avenue Elementary, won a grand achievement award in the 13th annual Roswell City Science Fair for his exhibit in chemical science titled Fuel of the Future Methane. Other grand winners were Randy Rankin and Margaret Hallock. The event drew 461 projects from Roswell ISD schools with seven categories. WinnersAdvance to Southeastern New Mexico Regional Science Fair set for March 29 30 at New Mexico Military Institute with regional entries due by March 22.

Montoya holds oil lease bids near Shell planned wells

Richard Montoya, chairman of New Mexico PSC, filed 19 BLM lease applications on Jan 2 1973 for land in Sandoval County near Cabezon Peak as part of a dispute over Southern Union Gas and Shell Oil drilling plans. He says he sold the rights to Nuclear Corp of New Mexico and no longer has an interest.

Continental to train 25 pilots at Roswell in DC-10 jets

Mayor Bill Brainerd announced Roswell Industrial Air Center will host 25 pilots for DC-10 training from March 14 to 21. Continental plans long haul use due to fuel gains and may transfer more training there as Alitalia also extends training, with Roswell tax revenue projected at 120000 dollars.

Eastham Announces Candidacy With Different Approach Plan

Former State Senator Jack Eastham of Albuquerque officially announced his bid for governor with a pledge of a different approach to state government. He travels from Las Cruces to Roswell, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque for campaign stops, saying the state needs broad, nonlocalized leadership.
