Fire destroys Elks Club lounge and furnishings

Elks Lounge Damaged in Roswell Club Fire

Fire at the Roswell Elks Club on Richardson and Second Streets destroyed the lounge and bar area with heavy smoke and heat. Crews from two pumpers and a snorkel fought the flames from 4:50 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. and found destroyed furniture carpet ceiling divider fixtures and shattered bar mirrors and glassware. The cause remained undetermined and smoke lingered in the foyer ballroom as charred chairs were removed.

Pritchard Named to ENM State Fair Board Vacancy

Jerry Pritchard, owner of Valley Chevrolet, was appointed to one of the ENM State Fair Board vacancies. Board president Jim Miles announced the move and noted two of three vacancies have been filled. One seat remains after several resignations including those of Bob Hazelwood and Roland Tessier.

Roswell 1974 Science Fair Sees 460 Entries

Roswell City Science Fair at Goddard High School expects 460 entries from fourth to eighth graders this year. Exhibits set up 3:30 to 6 p.m. today with judging at 6:30 p.m. and viewing 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Awards begin 1:30 p.m. in the GHS Little Theater.

The New Mexico Military Institute will name its new computer and data processing center McClure Hall in honor of Homer F. Glover Roswell regents president who died earlier this week The board cited his 15 years of service 1959 74 and approved the naming during a Wednesday meeting after his funeral services in Pearson Auditorium The center under construction will house a classroom terminal room computer room and offices in 2800 square feet with time share and batch processing capabilities
