Taft Delegates and Platform Shaping at Ohio GOP Meet

Columbus March 3 The Republican state convention convenes at four to nominate a state ticket and elect delegates to Chicago reaffirming support for Taft. Temporary Chairman Garfield will speak and committees will be formed with adjournment until tomorrow. A split over state officer nominations is anticipated while Taft’s platform is ready.

Moore Withdraws From Clerk Race Card Dropped

W S Moore withdraws from the race for city clerk and concentrates on other lines. The Mock Senate eighth session meets at 7 45 p m Tuesday in the basement of the new Baptist church to discuss the tariff bill. Every young man in the city is invited to attend.

Mrs Patterson Hosts Monday Card Club at Home

Mrs J F Patterson entertained the Monday Card Club at her corner of Kentucky avenue and Third street with outside guests. The afternoon featured five hundred and pleasant refreshments. Dr Presley offered eye ear nose and throat services and glasses fitting. Two more autos for Roswell were bought from Roswell Automobile Company including a five passenger Buick Model F 1908.

Bonds For Territorial Armories Pass In House

In Washington D C on February 28 Delegate Smith’s measure to lower Phoenix bonds interest met Rep Mann’s objection but passed. Delegate Andrews with Higgins helped push a house bill to validate $300000 bonds for territorial institutions and armories at Santa Fe Roswell Silver City and Las Cruces.

Chicago Anarchists Arrests After Attempted Killing Shippy

Chicago police report arrests of anarchists linked to an alleged plot to kill Chief Shippy. No injuries reported. Investigators say the suspects planned a violent attack at a city location and were stopped before harm occurred.

In Chicago the 20 year old Isadore Maron known as Curly Headed Boy was arrested near Lazarus Averbuch's home in connection with the attempted assassination of Chief of Police Shippy. Two other men were taken in as threats and a search of Averbuch's library revealed revolutionary material. Olga Averbuch and others are being questioned as part of the investigation.

The American car in the international automobile race arrived in Carroll Iowa at 2 55 this morning and left one minute later Driver Roberts reported the roads were improving

Expert horse shoeing accident at Texas shop

John Lemond suffered a dislocated right hip while breaking horses at the Slaughter farm east of town yesterday. A rope tied to his foot and a bronco caused the animal to jerk free and drag him about fifty feet.

Roswell Woman Dies at Oscuro Ranch in New Mexico

Lydia G. Ellis known as Tio resided five years in Roswell before dying yesterday at 2 PM at her Oscuro area ranch. She suffered a death from a complication of diseases at about age 50. Survived by husband and three children from her first marriage and numerous Roswell relatives including brother in law M V Goodin. Her holdings included the Price and Co. store building, a town tract, and 800 acres under the Hondo reservoir.

Roswell Opens Baseball Season with Lively Weekend Games

Roswell baseball opens with the Roswell Mexicans defeating the town team five to four in Chihuahua. A second game was played on the Military Institute grounds with the Institute losing to Sunday's victors. An engineer recruitment for Roswell waterworks and sewer projects draws several applicants ahead of a commission meeting. Electric light poles go up near the depot as local plans evolve. A mass meeting is set for Thursday at Payton Drug to organize the season with one pitcher still sought.

Death of Pat Garrett Sparks Murder Theories

In El Paso dated Feb 29 the body of Pat Garrett is to be buried in Las Cruces after he was killed by Wayne Brazele. Prominent locals claim Garrett was hunted for old feuds and discuss a possible self defense plea at Brazele’s preliminary hearing set for 10 AM.

Engineers wooed for Roswell plant as costs fall

The Roswell Waterworks and Sewer Commission holds a meeting to pick a supervising engineer for the city plant. Four to five engineers from large firms compete, citing cheaper construction here, pure water, no basins, easier sewer and water work, and a 25 percent price drop in materials. Mrs Ray Freestad Dies After Long Illness in Roswell

Mrs Ray Freestad aged 26 died at six o’clock this morning at her West Hill home after a prolonged tuberculosis illness. She came from Texas about a year ago and leaves a husband and three young children. Funeral at Dilley rooms tomorrow at 2 30 pm conducted by Elder C C Hill, burial in South Side Cemetery.
