Deputy Sheriff Finley tied no hitch as he left the rear court door with his single bogey horse. The court yard noise from a practicing band spooked the animal causing it to run through the east walk past Fifth street near Pecos. The buggy was wrecked with broken wheels shafts and body. No further damage reported.
Eva Nelson performs a program of violin solos and songs at TIC tonight. The event features a varied repertoire and promises intimate solo and vocal pieces in a concert suitable for classical music fans. Attendees are advised to arrive early for seating.
Ordinance No 154 amends No 153 to exclude south half of block 4 South Roswell Addition. Texas Oil Company may erect and maintain a warehouse and storage tanks on that half block to store oils and fuels. Oil tanks to be built on southeast quarter of block 4 if occupancy occurs. Company also allowed to build a railroad switch along Grand Avenue to connect the site.
The Roswell city council passed an amendment to an ordinance on June 26 1908 allowing the Eastern Railway Company of New Mexico to lay pipelines along Grand Avenue to connect storage tanks with a railroad switch. The amendment is to be printed with Ordinance No 153 and take effect with it. Mayor G A Richardson approved, City Clerk W T Paylor certified. Published June 27 1908.
In Hazelton Pennsylvania on June 27 spreading rails derailed a passenger train in the mountains near a deep cut. Engineer Raup was killed and eight passengers were injured as a baggage car and two day coaches were involved. The trio of cars left the track.

The fighting lasted all day with hundreds of shots fired from across the river at Americans. Nestor Lopez of Del Rio was killed. Captain Herezze, commanding Mexican troops, and Bassile Ramirez, an American citizen, were wounded. No political significance is attached, viewed as bandit activity.

U. S. Weather Bureau Roswell New Mexico reports June 27 temperatures high 86, low 66, mean 76 with no precipitation and southeast wind at 6 mph. Partly cloudy conditions. Forecast for Roswell and vicinity calls for fair tonight and Sunday with steady temperatures.
A mass meeting of Roswell leaders endorses Ed Kennedy’s proposal to build a railroad from Altus Oklahoma to Roswell. A seven member committee is empowered to contract with the promoter. About eighty-two citizens sign in support and pledge moral and financial backing. Kennedy outlines a phased plan to finance and construct the line, starting within three years, with Roswell serving as a key hub and headquarters.
The steamer Philadelphia carried the American team to London for the Olympic Games. Aboard were 85 athletes who answered the roll call as they departed New York on June 27 for Europe.
Secretary of Agriculture Wilson announced after hearings with oleomargarine and dairy representatives that the government inspection mark regulations must stand. He said the statute is clear and admits only one construction, reinforcing existing rules on oleomargarine labeling.
Harry K. Thaw wins a new writ of habeas corpus returnable before Supreme Justice Mills in White Plains. The court signs a formal order for re commitment to Matteawan, but the writ delays the transfer as Thaw seeks jury trial to prove his sanity.
