Containment Progress Reported for South Fork and Salt Fires
Officials from Southwest Incident Management Team 5 say substantial progress was made in containing the South Fork Fire near Ruidoso and the Salt Fire west of the Mescalero Reservation. The South Fork is 54 percent contained at 17,556 acres, while the Salt Fire is 37 percent contained at 7,947 acres. Gusty moisture aided efforts as crews prepared Tuesday to build fire lines and mop up hotspots, with mop-up to continue until full containment.
