Supreme Court Allows Juries Less Than 12 In Crime Trials

The Supreme Court ruled 7 to 1 that criminal juries may be fewer than 12 members, approving Florida’s six member panel and leaving open whether six is a lower limit. Pan Am Jet Hijacked to Cairo by Albanian Born U.S. Resident

An Albanian born American resident hijacked a Pan Am jet on a Lebanon to New York flight with 143 aboard. The hijacker, Hexhi Hassan Xyaert, 37, fired a shot after landing in Cairo to deter police. He carried a non passport U.S. travel document and gave an Oakland California address. The plane departed Cairo for Rome with the hijacker and pilot aboard. other passengers disembarked.

Rains Close Eddy Road Near Loving New Mexico

Mass arrests target narcotics ring in Operation Eagle

Attorney General Mitchell announced 190 suspects named as part of a six month undercover surge against a Miami based ring moving most cocaine and heroin into the United States. Seizures included 33 pounds of drugs, 14 weapons, 23 cars and about $20 000 in cash as raids spread to New York Miami and Chicago.
