Catania Italy June 20 Mount Etna lava from twelve craters is decreasing. Two more townships have been destroyed by fiery streams overnight but hopes remain that the main cities will be spared. Fresh eruptions unlikely. lava advances slowly. Giarre with twenty thousand residents has been completely evacuated.
June 20 Chicago reports that Mrs Francis Thompson, labeled the girl bandit who killed Richard C. Tes mer in a hold up, was revealed by physicians as a man. Thomp son is said to be the legal wife of Frank Thompson, who faces thirteen years. he is described as sexually abnormal.
Winsboro Texas June 20 three people are dead in a shooting at the home of W K Bradford aged fifty Bradford C C Chapman son in law and Bradford daughter Mrs C C Chapman were killed It is believed Bradford shot and killed the two and then shot himself A pistol and shotgun were used Mrs Bradford heard the shots and found the bodies in a bedroom Chapman was son of State Banking Commissioner J L Chapman Bradford was in ill health No motive is known but financial troubles are considered possible.
In Lubbock Texas June 20 jury selection continues for the murder trial of Tom Ross. Seven more jurors needed to fill the venire as illnesses and opinions slow the process. Defense seeks continuance over absent witnesses. judge Mullican fines absent witnesses 500 dollars and orders trial proceeding. The case involves the deaths of H L Robinson and W D Dave Allison with over 250 witnesses represented from sixty Texas counties.
Leavenworth Kan June 20 Erwin Bergdoll brother of Grover Bergdoll was re arrest ed this afternoon charged with conspiracy to evade the draft as he stepped from federal prison He has served three years for evading the draft The new warrant will be served immediately He will be arraigned in Kansas City
Washington, June 20. President Harding departs this afternoon on a western journey with about seventy accompany him on a ten car special train. He will stop in Tacoma to sail for Alaska and deliver speeches along the way.
