Enlistment test falls short of May goals
In May the Army and Marine Corps failed to reach the combined 2,434 target for combat enlistments, signing up 1,534. The Army drew 1,147 combat youths and the Marines lagged, while the Navy and Air Force also fell short or exceeded due to mixed results. The Pentagon’s bonus test of 2500 dollars runs through June with potential renewal debated in Congress. The Marine Corps produced strong total enlistments, and the Air Force topped its goal by 330.
