Roswell officers rushed to a Dendinger ranch call after a youth claimed two men were shot by highwaymen. A prankster tale sparked a late night chase as the tenderfoot fled, crashing into a fellow traveler and revealing a staged murder hoax.
A large yet stunning night blooming cereus flower drew many to Dr E H Skipwith on North Main Street. The bloom, about a foot across with yellow outer petals and white inner ones, opened around sundown and filled the evening with fragrance. A second bud is expected to open in a week or ten days.
