Witnesses testified in Hutchinson on the Arkansas river irrigation dispute between Kansas and Colorado. They described river underflow and compared water volume to a decade earlier. Six Inch Shell Explodes on Magnificent. Casualties Reported

A six inch shell exploded aboard the British battleship Magnificent during gun practice near Gibraltar on June 16. Four officers and fourteen men were injured, with one officer and three sailors killed. The misfiring cartridge ignited two others inside the gun case after the breech opened.

Great Possibilities for Transcontinental Trains Opened

Chicago June 16 The eighteen hour trains on the Lake Shore and Pennsylvania systems between New York and Chicago promise faster cross country travel. With Rock Island changes announced it will be possible to reach Denver 2,055 miles away in forty five hours and the Pacific Coast 3,260 miles away in ninety six hours starting next Sunday.

Lightning strikes water pitcher at Richardson Avenue home

During a Thursday storm lightning hit an ice water pitcher in the window room of Lewis Wachs at D L Geyer’s Richardson Avenue residence. The pitcher broke into a thousand pieces, spilling its contents on the floor. Wachs felt no shock while in the room.

Woman Kills Four Children Then Kills Self in Dubuque

Mrs. Paul Klass, in Dubuque Iowa, killed her four children ages six and under with a butcher knife and then cut her own throat. The tragedy occurred near here on June 16. Authorities report the mother had been in ill health.

Susan Atwater Gillette widow of Judge Gordon Gillette and direct daughter of the Revolution died at her Kenosha home aged 95. She was the daughter of John Atwater aide to General Washington and carried dispatches between Washington and Lafayette.
