President Roosevelt addressed editors from across the nation during the Jamestown Exposition in Norfolk Virginia on June 14. He spoke on reshaping taxation and conserving natural resources, praising the Reclamation Service and advocating reforms to public land laws to protect home makers and prevent land monopolies.
Santa Fe Eagle reports the New Mexico Board of Public Lands terminated by mutual consent an option on timber lands granted May 1901 to Edmund J. Burke and associates. A $5,000 deposit to the secretary is to be applied to purchase, with a June 2, 1902 deadline. failure results in forfeiture to the Territory, except if prevented by Interior Department actions or court rulings. Manzano Mountain lands receive separate terms.
Chicago June 10. A repeat of the five year old packing house strike looms as stock yards drivers vote almost unanimously to strike next Saturday unless wage demands of four cents per hour are met by packing firms.
A rear window of the Oriental saloon was broken last night. Burglars entered and Taney broke open slot machines, taking contents about 35 dollars. No clue to the robbers at this time.
A noon collision in the freight yards near the gas plant sent three cars and a caboose into a ditch. Two cars carried household goods owned by J. H. Cramer of Jetmore Kansas and 30 head of stock. No injuries were reported though chickens lay scattered amid debris.
The Council of Progressive in Tokyo on June 10 adopted resolutions stating that anti Japanese acts in San Francisco are not temporary and that Washington must be held responsible for failing to prevent such outrages. The Japanese government’s attitude toward Washington is seen as unsatisfactory.
Guthrie Oklahoma Territory June 10 Roberts Owen of Muskogee and Roy V Hoffman of Chandler appear to have won the Democratic nominations for U S senators from the new state of Oklahoma. Owen a Cherokee one eighth has been a teacher editor banker and attorney in the Territory. Hoffman has been a lawyer and editor and served in the Spanish war. C N Haskell of Muskogee and Lee Cruce of Ardmore claim the governor nominations with results still in doubt.
Messrs. Mark Howell C. C. Hill and V. M. Reid were appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to examine on June 25 at the Central School Building starting at ten o clock in the morning those who apply in writing before that date for the indigent scholarship to one of the...
Fragmentary note shows an act by the legislature appropriating 12800 dollars for scholarship support. An examining committee will report to the county commissioners on or before July. ATKINSON serves as Chairman of the County Commissioners. Daily to 24th.
The Santa Fe Central alters its timetable with the Torrance to Santa Fe run departing 11 45 a m and arriving 5 00 p m instead of 11 00 and 5 40. Eastbound from Santa Fe departs 2 00 p m instead of 1 20 and arrives Torrance at 7 50 p m instead of 8 15.
Mrs Valentina Madril and Miss Alma Lyons were convicted of first degree murder for poisoning Alma Lyons husband. They await execution while W and R T, governor Raynolds, commuted other sentences to life imprisonment. Both are placed in the Territorial penitentiary.
The Territorial Board of Education meets today in Santa Fe to award a four year school book contract. Contracts total about 25000 dollars and the meeting is expected to draw heavy competition among bidders.
Judge A A Freeman of Carlsbad and councilman J O Cameron from this district depart Carlsbad for Seattle Washington where they will reside for an extended period and make their permanence. Both have been influential in Pecos Valley development and progress across business politics civic and moral interests.

Olympia Washington June 10 regulation by the state railroad commission requires railways to redeem unused regular transportation tickets at face value when held by bona fide purchasers. The rule, to be posted in passenger stations, allows the holder to present the ticket within six months of sale for redemption.
A passenger may seek cash refund from the designated agent or at the ticket office where the ticket was bought, for the amount paid, upon redemption of the ticket.
The National Holiness camp meeting near Yskaloosa Iowa ended June 10 after starting May 31. Delegates and hundreds of visitors from across the United States attended in tents on the campus east of the Cen t Holiness university amid enthusiastic meetings.
The municipal ownership commission of the National Civic Federation met in New York to review its investigation and report. The final session is expected in about two weeks and the convention’s report will be released soon after.
