Gubernatorial candidates Bill Richardson and Diane Denish made a first of monthly visits to Roswell. They thanked supporters, pledged a clean campaign, and said they run as New Mexicans to unite all residents while touting issue based aims.
GOP candidate John Sanchez visits Roswell with running mate Rod Adair to tout a kitchen-table campaign. He cites Chaves County’s near 60 percent support and pledges tax reform and classroom funding. He criticizes Truth Commission talk and says he will work bipartisan with opponents.
Roswell hosts a New Beetles event June 14 to 16. Sky watch party at the Club House opens the weekend with planetarium observers. Beetles display glow, a parade on Main Street, and a Come as Your Alien party at the Civic Center, plus a Sunday visit to the UFO Museum and Alien Zone.
In Roswell, a tearful Randi Houghton accepts a nearly $21,000 relief check at City Hall presented by Mayor Bill Owen. The move follows Travis Kirkland leaving for a Oregon college presidency as Roswell weighs an 0.8 cent gross receipts tax to fund development. Local officials debate timing and funding viability.
