Two masked hijackers who seized a Colombian airliner ended a 15 000 mile western South America run by sneaking off in Resistencia Argentina with 50 000 dollars. After forcing refuels and releasing most passengers, they vanished near the borders of Paraguay and Brazil leaving police to search the remote Chaco region.

Miss Hine Wins 1973 Miss Central New Mexico Title
Catherine Elizabeth Hine, 20, of Ruidoso, won the 1973 Miss Central New Mexico pageant held at the Chaparral Motor Hotel convention center. First runner up Kim Gooch and second runner up Diana Lea Bir joined Hine in the top finish, with Veronica Sue Sanchez named Miss Congeniality. The event, sponsored by the Ruidoso District Jaycees, awarded $750 in scholarships to the four winners.

Local DAV groups win Darr and Trollinger awards in Roswell
The state Disabled American Veterans and auxiliary concluded their two day Roswell convention with an awards banquet at the Roswell Inn. Roswell Sunshine Chapter No. 4 earned the Darr award for the highest membership gain, over 150 members, while Farmington Chapter No. 9 took Trollinger for top member increase over quota and Gertie for best membership growth. Guest speaker DAV National Service Officer John Keller highlighted national disaster funds and emergency relief programs, noting a $1 million disaster fund and $300 checks through local officers, plus scholarships and Boy Scouts partnership.
