Cadet Polo Team Edged By Army All-Stars In Overtime

In Roswell, the Cadet Polo Team fell 9 to 8 to an Army Fort Bliss all stars unit after an extra chukker. Hill scored the decisive goal in overtime as crowds packed around the field to witness a thriller. The Institute led 3-2 at halftime and the game stayed tight, tying at 5-5 after the fourth period and 6-6 after five. Branson opened the final period with a goal for the Army before Monk Jowell and Harris pushed the Institute ahead 8-7, only to see a late Army rally force overtime. Both teams missed a foul before Hill clinched the win. The Army brought its own ponies, and Jack Shirley starred for Fort Bliss with strong play at No. 3. Von Tempsky missed due to measles, replaced by Puffer who performed creditably. Despite the defeat, the Cadets’ season record stood at 23 wins and 5 losses. King, the sole cadet graduate, may return for postgraduate work next year. Capt. A. H. Norton praised the plays during the match before heading to active duty. Commencement crowds swarmed, leaving the field crowded two and three deep along the approaches.
