In Belfast June 2, thousands of Catholics flee toward the Free State as violence in the past week leaves twenty Catholics dead and many wounded. Bossed by massacres and burnings, the exodus accelerates with some youths heading south to join Republican forces. Official tallies are unavailable for casualty counts.
Fire department answered two calls last night. A car owned by O J Hull caught fire causing only slight damage. Later, a blaze at L R Culleva’s home at 16th and College caused slight damage.
Washington June 2 A tacit understanding with England and France is forming as the administration foreign debt commission moves toward a concrete plan to fund the eleven billion dollars owed by Allied nations to the United States. British and French plenipotentiaries will meet soon to thresh out details, based on a general scheme prepared by Hughes Hoover and Melton.
The Senate approved a Walsh of Massachusetts resolution directing the Secretary of Commerce to investigate the nationwide coal strike. The inquiry will report to the Senate with all available information on the strike and its impact on U S consumers.

Williams Buckler railroad detective lies near death from gunshot wounds and Don Cleason is wounded in a fight with the bandits an hour after the robbery.
Beaumont Texas June 2 a citizens committee files an amended petition in an oyster case charging Sheriff Garner with pressuring George Tevis a former sheriff department employee to testify falsely before the grand jury The petition also directly accuses the Beaumont No 7 Ku Klux Klan of tar or featherings in the community
Kansas City June 2. Special examiner J. H. Tedrow of the Chamber of Commerce Transporta tion Commissioner urges the Interstate Commerce Commission to reduce cattle shipping rates. The San Antonio territory rate would drop from 2.18 to 0.39 dollars and Hillsboro from 1.10 to 0.? dollars.
Tokyo reports quote General Giichi Tanaka warning war could flare again any time and urging readiness. He favors army reduction only if no future conflict looms, warning that reducing borders now would threaten Japan. Other military figures urge preserving a fighting spirit for national strength and development. Russia and China are named as likely trouble spots, with war against America deemed unlikely.

Beaumont, Texas June 2 R L Maxson 52 who had slashed his sixteen year old son to death after a divorce action by Mrs Maxson attempted suicide by cutting his throat then overpowered a guard in a local hospital and leaped four stories to the ground dying two hours later.

Since 1908 Ford has sold six million cars and trucks, with about 5,517,956 delivered in the United States and 4,478,248 still in daily service. Shanghai June 2 Ten thousand Kiang-Si troops are in full flight after defeat by Sun Yat Sen forces in a seven day battle yielding about one thousand casualties. Canton troops captured forty field pieces seventy machine guns and fifteen hundred rifles and occupied Nan Chang.
Portland Oregon June 2 Officials estimate losses from forest and brush fires across the Northwest in the last three days may total six million dollars. Cedar Hill Washington Pineville and other towns are in ruins and nearly two thousand people are homeless.
Chicago June 2 Emil Burge cousin strikes at Max Oser branding him a fortune hunter in a dispute over the engagement of Mathilde McCormick 17 to Swiss stableman Max Oser. Burge accuses him of seeking an easy life in retirement rather than love.
Washington June 2 The condition of the cotton crop on May 25 was 69.6 percent of normal, up from 66 percent last year. The ten year May 25 average is 74.6 percent. Texas averaged 61 percent this May 25 versus 71 percent last year.
