Institute Finals In Full Swing At New Mexico Military Institute

The 42nd commencement program opened with a large national and international turnout. 118 cadets will graduate next Tuesday at 8 15 in Lea Hall as the largest class in the school’s history. A military drill exhibition, awards, and the Cadet Jambalaya feature events today and tonight include divers, springboard stunts, and gymnastics demonstrations by 36 cadets under Capt. C M Woodbury.

Building activity climbs with May permits in town

May building permits reached 58 090 dollars across 31 permits, continuing April’s surge after a spring lull. The year to date totals 171 345 dollars, with plans for two new N M M S buildings and new grade school and Mark Howell additions not yet issued. The May largest permit was 15 000 dollars for a new auto camp on West Second Street.

Dalphend Faces New Medical Practice Charge

George C. Dalphend is again charged with practicing medicine without a license in district court. He previously faced a similar charge and received 90 days in jail and a $100 fine after conviction, then appealed to the supreme court and was released on appeal bond. A narcotics count was continued from April, and a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses was dismissed.

Two Arrested Here On Forgery Charge

Forgery charges were filed in J. P. court today against Coy Cox and Rex McCoy, arrested last night by the sheriff's department. McCoy pled guilty and was bound over to district court under $1,000 bond by Pat O'Neill. Cox pleaded not guilty. Date of preliminary hearing not set.

Baldridge Killed In Highway 285 Crash At Santa Fe

Kenneth Baldridge prominent Albuquerque lumber dealer, 49, was killed when his car overturned on U S Highway 285 near the northern Santa Fe city limits. His wife, injured lightly, survived.
