Stud Poker Opinion Delays City Action on New Proposition

City Marshal Rascoe observed a stud poker game at the Free Coinage Saloon with non participating house owners while players risked large stakes. Attorney Dunn said the current ordinance may not cover social gambling and anticipated another ordinance. City Attorney Scott was away. The matter remains open until Scott returns and council may act.

Elza White Sells 100000-Pound Wool Clip at Roswell

Elza White yesterday sold a 100000 pound wool clip to A J Hill of the Roswell Wool Exchange. The price was private but near 20 cents, with the lot described as extra fine and the best seen this year. The wool filled five cars and was loaded at Roswell Wool & Hide Company warehouse. The Roswell Exchange also bought the Hunt Clip of 10000 pounds from the Lincoln county ranch, brought in today.

In Rome on July 31 the Pope welcomed American pilgrims led by Bishop Henry Gabrielle of Ogdensburg and John J. McCrane of Brooklyn.
