19 Panhandle Men Die in Dumas Blast

A petroleum tank farm explosion at Shamrock Oil and Gas Corp in Dumas Texas killed 19 men and injured many others. Fifteen died instantly as four tanks exploded and burned setting off further blasts. Funeral services were held in Dumas Sunray and planned in multiple Texas cities.

Steelworkers Endure 30th Day of Walkout With Prospects

Pittsburgh reports the 650,000 striking steelworkers await a signed three year no strike contract to end the walkout. A master agreement was begun, with final individual company contracts due this week. Four Die In New Mexico Sunday Traffic Offenses

Four more persons died in traffic accidents in New Mexico on Sunday. Ralph Baca, 19, of Belen, was killed after being struck by a car along U S 85 south of Albuquerque. Mora County Clerk Resigns After Suspension

Santa Fe State Comptroller D. M. Smith announced the resignation of Mora County Clerk Peggy Cassidy as of July. She was suspended June 8 after irregularities in the office books, with an audit now underway and expected to finish in about a week. County commissioners will likely name a new clerk soon. Cassidy gave no reason for her resignation.
