Richard F. Barnett sold an ideal twelve year farm east of town to R. T. Burge who recently moved to Beaumont Texas. Burge plans immediate improvements including a large barn and stock, with turkeys to be raised on the property. The farm fronts the Second extension east of Main Street.

Lieutenant Charles England navigated the U S cruiser Chattanooga when a rifle bullet from the French armored cruiser Dupetit Thouars’ crew struck him. The incident occurred as the Chattanooga moved from the harbor to a target off Chefoo, China, and England died later the same day.
