U S stock markets faded again with the Dow Jones average dropping 16.32 to 852.83 and the Associated Press 60 stock average at 308.2 a new low for the year. Brokers cited tight money and war uncertainty as factors.
The Senate Labor Committee postponed its hearings on the 19 day airline strike at administration request. Senator Wayne Morse said the delay allows time for testimony from Labor Secretary Wirtz and Postmaster General O'Brien. In Vietnam, Viet Cong attacked Chu Lai, with U S forces replying with artillery and napalm as casualties appeared light.
London reports the House of Commons backed the Labour government bill to nationalize 14 major steel firms, a move seen as boosting state control of 90 percent of the nation’s steel. The tally was 328 to 247 on second reading as Conservatives attacked PM Harold Wilson’s handling of the economy.
The Federal Power Commission ruled 4-1 to expand natural gas transmission by El Paso Natural Gas and Transwestern Pipeline at a cost of 95 million dollars to raise Los Angeles area deliveries. The Roswell station remains unchanged, while Transwestern adds engines along the route. Gulf Pacific Pipeline and El Paso faced rejection of alternative plans.

New Mexico gubernatorial candidate T. E. Gene Lusk urged that the state Development Agency be governed by a board rather than under the governor's direct control. Speaking to Ruido So Downs officials and horsemen, he proposed changes to the industrial division and tourism, and heard calls to raise purses at the State Fair. He opposed dog racing and pledged to veto any bill legalizing it.
Two guards were shot but not seriously wounded when three armed gunmen robbed an armored car of 60 000 dollars outside the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain Boston witnesses said the attackers used masked gunmen and some accounts noted machine gun style fire. The robbers fled in a panel truck followed by a white sedan with Connecticut plates. The incident marked the second armored car robbery in Greater Boston within four days.
Basel AP Swiss police arrested a former bank employee tied to a blackmail attempt against a foreign millionaire after he photographed secret details of a numbered account at Union Bank of Switzerland. The client reportedly demanded a ransom to prevent the photos from being sent to tax authorities.
The report shows a road toll of 237 this year in New Mexico, compared with 246 at the same date last year.
