Government price ceilings on beef remain until Sept. 12 forcing Glover’s Packing Co. Roswell to reassess operations as losses mount. Executive VP Rudy Narod says production continues but warns of possible layoffs if curtailment becomes necessary. Explorer Scouts Drown Canoe Trip At Yellowstone Lake

Tom Gower and Bob Safran both 16 and two adult leaders were aboard canoes they built for a Yellowstone trip when a thunderstorm struck. Five survived as park officials reported the youths and leaders drowned. Seamons was a father of six and worked as an electrical engineer. the troop had raised about $500 for the journey.

By law review eyed for private clubs in New Mexico

Deputy state liquor director John Romero said the state may examine by-laws of private clubs to see if male only restrictions could void liquor licenses. He cited the Elks nationally removing whites-only clauses and noted potential action on equal rights for women. A AG opinion would be needed before enforcing.

ENMU to Receive 24000 Grant for Rural Institute in Roswell
