Murder arrest after Clayton police killing in New Mexico
Lawrence Eugene Vigil, 18, was arrested in Clayton on a first degree murder charge for the slaying of Sgt. Emilio Maestas, a 54-year-old Clayton veteran. The shooting followed a high speed chase and confrontations with a group described as a Chicano organization. several people were being held for questioning. Maestas died after being struck by a .22 caliber bullet to the head at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.

Emergency base station unit planned for Roswell area
New Mexico Regional Medical Program officials in Roswell announced plans to outfit an ambulance with radio link to a base station and life sign monitoring similar to the TV show Emergency. Equipment would be provided by the New Mexico Communications System in Santa Fe to the current contract holder LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
