Berlin July 18 Fischer and Kern, the assassins of Foreign Minister Rathenau, killed themselves as police closed in at Bad Koesen Thuringia. The men barricaded a tower and opened fire, with volley after volley from police.
Hall Bros. advertises affordable car tools noting a cheap pair of pliers and a cheap screwdriver will last as long as expensive ones. Prices listed at 50 and 75 cents. Also an ad for Roswell Flora Company promoting cut flowers and blooming plants with phone reference.
In Cedar Bayou near Houston a mob seized Dave Hunt and his fiancée from their home, forced Hunt into a car at gunpoint, whipped him with a knotted rope, chained them, and dumped them in a ditch. Hunt is in serious condition. his mother remains gravely ill. The mob's identities are under investigation and the fiancée's name is withheld.
July 18. Four alleged strike breakers in the Frisco shops were flogged and expelled from town as a mob of about one hundred men kidnapped them from Dreamland dance hall at Forrest Park. They were stripped and lashed with leather straps then sent south six miles toward Cleburne road. The men returned to the city at 3 AM and reported to authorities.
Cliftonville West Virginia July 18 deputies and mine guards remained heavily armed on picket duty after a deadly clash yesterday in which Sheriff Duvall and six miners were killed. Embittered bands of miners reportedly gather on wooded hills planning retaliation as machine guns are stationed along possible attack routes.
Reported clash between Catholic workers and Socialist miners near La Paz in the Mateosuala district results show 35 dead and many injured. Troops are patrolling the area. D L McDonald of Hereford Texas won the Roswell Gun Club registered shoot at the Country Club with 189 pigeons hit of 200. M W Evans of Lake Arthur took second with 173, Ernest Malone of Roswell third with 165, H B Smyth of Roswell fourth with 158. Pro shooters H J Donnelly Guthrie Oklahoma and Theodore Roualt Jr Las Cruces New Mexico hit 184 and 154 respectively. Willis Ford scored 46 of 50 in a noncompeting showing. Attendance was light but visitors praised the event and Roswell Gun Club now has fifteen active members with Friday practice.
London July 18 The wedding of Edwina Ashley heiress of Sir Ernest Cassel to Lord Louis Mountbatten was held at St Margaret’s Westminster with King George, Queen Mary and the Prince of Wales attending. Mountbatten, formerly Prince Louis of Battenberg, was First Sea Lord at the war’s outset. The bride’s fortune was vast, her grandfather’s estate valued between two and ten million pounds.
More than fifty railroad representatives are expected as the Southwestern Railroad Claim Agents Association opens in Mineral Wells Texas. Plans to simplify freight claim rules and other issues will be discussed. Special attention will be given to preventing railroad crossing accidents. The convention runs three days.

At a special board meeting the Chamber of Commerce unanimously endorsed President Harding's proclamation calling for no interference with interstate commerce and the United States mail. The secretary was directed to telegraph the endorsement to the president.
The Ruidoso Lodge will open July 29 under Croissant and Albert of Roswell. The main building 28 by 40 feet, with dining room and kitchen, plus several sleeping cabins. Rates at three dollars a day, with weekly or monthly specials. White Line Stage Co will run Saturdays to the lodge and back Sundays, with tours into the canyon or to the Indian agency for Sunday groups.
Texarkana July 18 Otto Hoffman 62 head of the Hoffman Hardware company shot himself in the head and died instantly at nine o'clock last night. No cause is attributed to the death by his own action. He had lived here forty five years.
Mexico City dispatch reports bandit Gorozave, who raided the Tampico oil field, has been killed. Word of the death came in late today.
Charles R. Miller, editor of the New York Times, died at noon today in New York. The late editor was a longtime figure at the paper and a prominent newsroom leader.
