The Chaves County Commission approves a 3,598,751 operating budget for the coming year, up 55,154 from last year. Commissioners Aiello Corn and Jennings sign off on the plan detailing general expenses roads fire districts and farm and range allocations.
Roswell City Council unanimously raises the municipal gross receipts tax from 4 to 42 percent effective July 1 1979 to fund street repairs and general city needs. The plan allocates a quarter cent to streets and a quarter cent to the general fund. officials foresee a referendum but expect the increase to stand.
Roswell Judge Paul Snead denies injunction to stop Brewer Oil Co from continuing on leased property used by Fran's Antiques owner Mrs. R Frances Jones. Lawyer Kenneth Wilson files $30,000 damages suit during hearing naming property owners and manager.
The Roswell City Council gave final approval Tuesday night to the Coronado subdivision a new $8 million single family housing project by Naranjo Development Corp. The 113 lot community along Chrysler Drive Megcalero Road and Sherrill Lane features homes 1500 sq ft in size with 3 or 4 bedrooms priced from 55000 to 120000 a 2.2 acre park central to the site will not be city maintained and doubles as a drainage system streets will be named for Spanish explorers Coronado Espejo Escalante and Onate built by Community Sciences Corp of Corrales with Naranjo and his brother Raymond in leadership roles.
