Roswell city council approved two annexations by resolutions 806 and 807. The areas near Hobbs Street Lea Avenue Pennsylvania Avenue and North Main are to be added for water and sewer extensions with owners paying three dollars per front foot for each lot connected, while the city will build mains.
Thousands of East Berlin industrial workers conducted sitdown strikes in Soviet operated and people’s mills demanding immediate release of comrades arrested in the June 17 anti Communist uprising. Authorities announced restoration of intra city travel and border crossing without passes, easing martial law restrictions.

Augustus T. Seymour, a 46 year old Albuquerque attorney, to be sworn in as a Republican State Supreme Court justice succeeding Henry Coors who resigned for health reasons. Seymour, appointed by Gov. Edwin Mechem, is the court’s youngest member and a Columbus Ohio native who studied at Harvard. He served as a captain in the Army from 1942 to 1946.
