Alfalfa faces weak markets tied to livestock prices as growers seek cash for operating costs with limited storage for later cuts. Annual alfalfa yield is estimated at four and a half to five tons per acre according to US census figures.

Airman Dies From July Fourth Road Crash Near Roswell

Roswell airman Sgt. Jose Trujillo 37 of Walker AFB died from injuries after a car rollover on U S 60 ten miles east of Fort Sumner on July 4. Companion Ramon Duran of Clovis remains in serious condition as New Mexico fatalities for 1953 rise to 184.

A small pig named Porky was found in a flower plot in the 1600 block of South Stanton on June 22 and taken to the Roswell pound. The heat affected him as he lay still while awaiting recovery by his owner.
