Eddy County Commissioners Tax Wells on Unpatented Land Won’t Apply

Attorney J L Johnson returned from Carlsbad after securing a new order from Eddy County commissioners setting aside the tax on artesian wells on government land. About 152 wells in the county faced assessments ranging from 3000 to 5000 dollars, with Artesia leaders Galvie Talbot George Cleveland and E F Hardwick among the fighters. Parts of Roswell report heavy rain from the Fourth with Carlbad claiming two inches since then.

Engine Jumped the Rails Near Texico

An engine attached to the north bound train jumped the rails near Texico yesterday. It tore up several ties delaying other trains. The passenger car suffered no damage. The second section of the afternoon train bringing a crowd from the north was delayed a few hours for repairs.

Remains Taken to Old Home for Tim Dean

Mrs. Pearl Dean departed this morning with the remains of her husband Tim Dean who died yesterday at the Perkins home North Hill. She carries the body to Weldon Arkansas the late home where the funeral service will be held. Dean came here about a month ago for his health but was too late.

Cooper Foreman Leaves for Denver After Family Ills

Rees SF reports Cooper foreman of the Record office departed for Denver to be with his wife who had left a fortnight earlier after a telegram announcing her father’s death. He received word that his wife’s sister Miss Flie Weatherly had died. Mrs. Cooper’s mother is not expected to live, prompting the family to return to their old home in Indian before resuming their duties.
