U S Navy fighter bombers attacked two North Vietnamese torpedo boats off Haiphong early today as the air war against the North continued. One Skyhawk was shot down but the pilot was rescued. Navy and Air Force planes flew 91 multiplane missions Monday including an oil storage area 19 miles southeast of Haiphong.

Raid air war intensifies over North Vietnam and Da Nang clash

An estimated 250 to 300 planes raided targets in North Vietnam including an oil storage area near Thanh Hoa. In South Vietnam U S Marines near Da Nang reported heavy fighting with 154 Viet Cong killed. Skyhawks from the carrier Constellation attacked torpedo boats. one aircraft was downed. Separately Cape Kennedy launched a 29 ton rocket stage as it orbited, carrying 10 tons of liquid hydrogen in its tank.

Former RHS Star Athlete Willis Dies

Randy Clay Willis, 21, of Roswell, a former Roswell High School standout in basketball and baseball, died at 1 50 p m Sunday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was born Feb 1 1945 in Portales and lived in Roswell all his life. Surviving relatives include his parents, a brother, and grandparents. Funeral services set for Wednesday at Ballard Chapel with burial at South Park Cemetery.

Man Brushed by Horses at Suffolk Downs Finish

A man ran onto the Suffolk Downs track during the feature race, was bumped by two leaders Taunton and Happy Water, and narrowly avoided injury. Police identified him as Theodore Luppino, 38, of Boston, a former mental patient, and he was sent to Boston State Hospital for observation.

Three Die in New Mexico Traffic Crashes During 4th of July Weekend

Three persons die in separate New Mexico crashes raising the holiday toll. Ruben Romo, 29, from El Paso, and E D Howeth, 30, of Fort Worth, die on I 10 near the state line when a rig hits a parked truck as Romo changes a tire. Another fatality near Jemez Springs follows a single car wreck. Henry Sanchez 21 of Albuquerque survives, but three fellow travelers suffer injuries.
