White suggested service suspensions and carrier realignments if Navajo Freight Lines gains similar authority.
Federal state county and city offices will close Friday for the Fourth of July. Banks and many finance firms will be closed as will utility companies. The post office will operate Friday but close Saturday with no mail deliveries. Several Roswell retailers will close Saturday while the Roswell Public Library stays open Friday and closes Saturday.
Admiral Thomas H. Moorer begins as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at Annapolis. He warns against using the defense budget as a cure for domestic ills while stressing the need to secure the nation’s safety before addressing other problems.
YMCA fireworks display joins Bottomless Lakes for one large show over Lea Lake at 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. F. N. Burns and Rey Schiessman announce the event with a 10 a.m. flag ceremony and all day contests including sailboat and kayak races plus a $1,500 fireworks finale.
Santa Fe AP report states New Mexico employers will save about 1.3 million dollars yearly as workmen's compensation insurance rates drop. The 7.9 percent average decrease spans over 600 classifications, with manufacturing down 18.4 percent, construction down 8 percent, and other categories including mining down 5.6 percent. The cuts take effect immediately from findings by the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
Senator Joseph M. Montoya says Census Bureau chief George Hay Brown will work with New Mexico communities to correct 1970 census errors.
