Santa Fe New Mexico reports a weekend without traffic fatalities marking a rare pause in the toll after a surge that led to an emergency, with 178 deaths this year. Director Jess Holmes credits National Guard road blocks and patrols for improved driving and public reception.

Six people were killed and a seventh seriously injured when a car broadsided another at a highway intersection in Georgia. Surviving passenger Jo Ann Hyde, 24, of Senoia, was in serious condition. Victims include Archie G Hyde, 56 Virginia Lou Hyde, 47 Elaine Hyde, 8 and Lunceford, Howell, and Whitlock aged 18, 18, and 23. Police say Lunceford ran a stop sign at high speed.
Traffic fatalities and tolls in New Mexico report 178 deaths to date this year, compared with 137 by the same date last year, reflecting an uptick in road fatalities over the period.

Mrs. Raymond Lewis 52 of 1621 N Michgan Ave Roswell sustained a fractured skull broken pelvis and other injuries after her car overturned in a one car wreck Sunday at 7 am about 70 miles west of Socorro. Four others were bruised including her son J W Lewis and his wife their 4 year old daughter and sister in law. The family traveling from Phoenix to Albuquerque was taken to Sun Valley Hospital.
James M. McDevitt of 1619 S. Kentucky Ave won the $395 Cushman Motor scooter awarded by Furr's Food store Saturday night Harriet Burke aged 16 of 1003 Rancho Rd won the Bel Air Chevrolet in a Food Mart giveaway The Buick will be given away by Furr's Saturday at 8 pm.
San Francisco police report 34 year old William Wai Lum Chun died after leaping from a fifth floor room at the YMCA hotel and again from the 13 story roof. He left notes mentioning ill health.
July 4 festivities spread across New Mexico feature at least eight rodeos from Cloudcroft to Mescalero and La Mesilla fiestas in two old communities. Mescalero Apache maidens will debut at a religious ceremony with ceremonial dances public in part. Albuquerque marks the 250th anniversary with a Hi Level El Capitan two story railliner debut and a Santa Fe Railway replica of early locomotives. Fireworks light the skies as Lions Club hosts a $1,000 color and noise show at Ft. Marey Park Santa Fe.
Roll call notes from Washington show NM senators Chavez and Anderson voting for amendments and passage on Defense and foreign aid measures. In the House Fernandez and Dempsey supported key bills extending disability pensions and the Defense Production Act compromise.
William Cutter of Cutter-Carr Flying Service flew Gordon Gilmore, TWA vice president of public relations, over the crashed Grand Canyon site. Cutter described “nothing left but a big burnt place and a few scraps of metal” and noted rugged air currents near the crash area.
Roswell's 1955-56 budget totals 1,392,526, up 32,873 from 1,359,653. The hearing at City Hall featured Manuel Baca of the state tax commission reviewing the figures. Attendees included City Manager C. M. Woodbury and representatives from R. L. Harrison & Co. and others.
Nine people were injured when two blasts struck the Sylvania Electric plant's metallography lab in Bayside Queens. The Atomic Energy Commission said there is no radiation hazard outside the building and the work is classified as part of peaceful atomic research.
