NMMI Cadet Injured in Accidental Self Inflicted Shot
Stephen Foster an 18 year old New Mexico Military Institute cadet son of Mr and Mrs E S Foster of Santa Fe underwent surgery at St Marys Hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the stomach with a .22 revolver. The shooting occurred on the Don Martin place near Dunlap 48 miles north of Roswell. Foster and fellow cadets Jerry Don Martin 16 and Bartlett R Gilbert 17 had been target shooting when Foster spun the revolver on his finger and it discharged. Foster called he was shot the others thought he was joking until he wilted and blood was found. Time of shooting 230 pm. The sheriff and deputy investigated and a private car carried the wounded youth to the hospital.
