The 36 nation Islamic Conference ended an emergency session in Islamabad with a call for immediate Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan and for troop withdrawals from Ethiopia. The Afghanistan government was suspended, while hardline states and Iran urged tougher actions against the United States.
A resolution sponsored by Iran urged peaceful US Iran ties and opposed sanctions while eight African Muslim nations resisted naming the United States. Other measures called for Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan and suspended the pro Moscow Afghan government. The conference condemned Soviet aggression and demanded immediate troop withdrawal.
