Mrs Aminta Aguilar will be installed today as president of the Chaves County Association for Retarded Citizens in Roswell. Other items include grazing fee hikes by the Bureau of Land Management and a national call to include women in registration and draft.
President Carter sent Congress a 1981 budget of 615.8 billion dollars focusing on strengthening defense and curbing inflation. The plan boosts Pentagon spending by 15 billion and aims to cut the deficit to 15.8 billion, with limited new programs besides defense, energy, youth employment, and housing subsidies for the poor.
Six Roswellites form the Progressive Roswell Ticket to contest all six city council seats in the March municipal election. The slate includes Edman Hildebrandt York McEneny Watson and Anaya with James Bozarth as finance chair. Platform calls for better city services responsive government and more industrial growth. Edman and Hildebrandt seek terms in Ward 1.
Senator Pete Domenici announced there will be no cutbacks in funding for the Roswell and Clayton New Mexico weather stations this year. He noted administration recognition of the stations' vital role and praised the decision to keep both sites operational.
Twenty six Saudi Arabian employees of Saudi National Airlines will study English at Eastern New Mexico University Roswell for seven months starting February 5 as preparation for two years of U S aircraft maintenance training. The program uses Systran Corp instructors with ENMU Roswell coordinating.
