Washington AP reports vigorous inaugural activities for President Johnson with luncheons receptions and dances. The schedule runs full through the oath at noon Wednesday and a 22 hour parade amid cold weather. Included are events for Hubert Humphrey governors and Young Democrats with no open moments on the timetable.
Sheriff James G. Clark jailed more than 60 Negroes who refused to use an alley entrance for voter registration at Dallas County courthouse in Selma. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the group as they circled the block or returned to a church meeting. King warned of legal channels and anticipated court action to expand the voter list.
Gov. Jack M. Campbell unveiled a broad program at the 27th New Mexico Legislature opening, calling for amendment or repeal of the 1963 highway anti bypass act. He highlighted a bright fiscal outlook with a projected general fund balance around 102 million dollars, and said tax increases are not planned. He reviewed highway progress in 1964 with contracts totaling 57.37 million, potentially meeting the 1972 interstate deadline, and noted two major matters for continued progress.
A two man Gemini craft powered by black box simulations completed a 16,600 mph suborbital flight. The test, aimed at orbit readiness for Grissom and Young, ended 19 minutes after launch with a landing 25 miles from Lake Champlain in the Atlantic 2,150 miles southeast of Cape Kennedy.

Brig. Gen. Murray A. Bywater said a parachute found in one engine of the wrecked jet tanker may not have contributed to the crash that killed 30. Engine experts confirmed the chute was attached when removed from the hole in the street. its role remains uncertain.

A collision between the American freighter Lucile Bloomfield and the French tanker Port Manech in foggy English Channel left seven dead or missing. The Port Manech burned and ran aground near Le Havre, with five more crewmen feared dead in the engine room. The Lucile Bloomfield, whose crew were unscathed except for 22 rescued tanker men, docked under smoke and with six injuries serious.
West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard arrived in Paris for two day talks with President Charles de Gaulle on European unity and German reunification. The discussions occur at Rambouillet with Foreign Ministers Schroeder and Couve de Murville meeting in Paris.
A federal judge in Meridian set January 27 for arraignment of 18 men charged with conspiracy in the murder of three Civil Rights workers near Philadelphia. A hearing on defense motions is scheduled for January 26 with U.S. District Judge Harold Cox presiding. Horace Barnette and James Jordan, two Meridian natives, had fled or were arrested on bond. The FBI calls the killings a Ku Klux Klan plot.

Livestock sales at the National Western Show near $500000 with Frank E. Witham paying $5800 for a 1963 foaled black quarter horse filly.
