Death first in 10 years Gary Gilmore executed in Utah
Gary Mark Gilmore, 36, the man who demanded execution, was killed by a Utah firing squad at Point of the Mountain. He faced a five man rifle squad in the former prison cannery and died at 8 06 a.m. MST after the hood was placed and witnesses heard the rifle fire.
