Two youths in jail after multi state car theft spree

Two boys aged 16 and 17 were held in Chaves County jail after a spree that began in Roswell with car thefts. They stole a Chevrolet owned by Myron Carson then a Chrysler owned by W. L. Stirman, wrecking one car and injuring a youth. A state police sting led to their capture in Alamogordo. Meanwhile bids for the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center project near Roswell will open tomorrow with many contractors seeking work and the board hoping to raise about 200000 more in funds.

M H Tottenhoff of Carlsbad was elected president at the New Mexico Drycleaners Assn annual convention opening in Albuquerque. About 140 people registered for the two day event.

Three Men Ejected From McCarthy Hearing in Boston

In Boston on January 16, Sen. McCarthy’s second New England hearing ended in an uproar with three people ejected for resisting questions on communism. A GE employee Nathaniel Mills led the disruption, shouting accusations before marshals removed him. Four witnesses invoked the Fifth Amendment. one admitted being a communist briefly after 1937. Berlin reports say Britain France and the United States pressed talks with the Soviet Union to resolve where the Big Four foreign ministers should meet in divided Berlin. With the January 25 opening session approaching, Allied commanders were ordered to resume discussions on suitable buildings, likely one site in the Allied sector and another in the Soviet zone.

New Mexico Fends Off Two Northern Storms

The Associated Press reports New Mexico avoided two northern storms. One storm lingered in the Pacific Northwest and was labeled a stinkeroo by the Weather Bureau as it threatened the Southwest but stalled and may weaken if it arrives.
