G. L. Covel and five daughters burned to death when a coal oil can exploded in their one room homestead home fifty miles north of Roswell. Mrs. Covel survived and gave a detailed account to neighbors and hospital staff. The tragedy occurred around 2 50 morning. Mr. Covel died with the children in the blaze. Sheriff’s office and investigators gathered details. bodies were taken to Ballard Funeral Home.

Stolen 1927 Puick Sedan Recovered. Suspect Captured
Jesse Dustin’s 1927 Puick sedan was stolen between 8:20 and 10:30 last night on Third Street near Main and recovered about 11:30 east of Roswell on the highway west of the Pecos river bridge. Deputy E L. Peck captured 19 year old Alvin Burton, a paroled convict, with a companion who escaped. Burton had prior car theft charges and was out on parole. Chaves County Sheriff’s office notes a strong record of recovering stolen cars, with all 1933 thefts recovered and three more this year.
