Harold Jones of the Modern Food Market is reported in better condition today after an earlier attack of pneumonia. He fell ill yesterday and was cared for by medical staff.
Major J. G. Armstrong temporarily in command of the Roswell advanced air corps training school will address the merchants meeting Tuesday at 6 30 PM at Nickson Coffee Shop. He will discuss local impact on Roswell and business and how the community can cooperate. Officers for the merchants association and Eastern New Mexico State Fair will report finances and be elected. Dinner tickets are 75 cents and must be bought in advance at the Chamber of Commerce.
L. H. Keller and A. Z. Jones are named as new Roswell policemen by chief Eller. Council approves six month funding of 2575 for an expanded police program due to war emergency and army air base construction. Keller returns from the force. Washington January 9 The House approved by 67 to 20 a daylight saving bill imposing a uniform one hour advance of clocks. The Senate had earlier passed a bill granting the president authority to move clocks up to two hours. A conference committee is expected to reconcile differences. The one hour shift would start 20 days after enactment and last until six months after the war ends. Roosevelt pressed daylight saving to conserve electricity with House debate focusing on farmer impact.
The Commercial Bulletin reports that wool manufacturers face a surge of almost 18 million yards of military fabrics and two million blankets tied to January 20th orders. Mills show cautious confidence with O P M allocations and O P A price ceilings, while Western buying remains weak and mohair stays dull with little change.
In Boston today there was little trading in the wool market with very firm asking prices. Dealers did not push sales as occasional small lots of graded fine French combing length territory wool moved at 1.10 to 1.12 scoured Oasis. Graded three-eighths and one-quarter blood combing bright wools were quoted mostly at 51 to 52 cents in the grease.
