Oil workers face possible nationwide strike over contract terms

Union president A F Grospiron set a 24 hour deadline for a new contract with oil firms as talks stall. Pickets remained at Texas and California refineries while wildcat strikes hit sites in Port Arthur and El Segundo. The union seeks 1.20 per hour raises plus a 0.50 surge to offset inflation, a cost of living escalator, and pension and health benefits. Exxon has a single plant under the pact.

Brown outlines NM tax surplus priorities for session
