Nelson a farmer who shaped New Mexico cotton and education

Morgan Nelson, a lifelong family farmer from East Grand Plains near Roswell, helped develop stronger cotton varieties, led CARET for college funding, and promoted junior colleges. A 1937 Roswell High School graduate, he earned an engineering degree from NMSU, served in the Air Force, and later chaired the New Mexico Cotton Advisory Committee while receiving multiple honors.

DWI arrests stay low over New Year in Grant County

Grant County reports only one DWI arrest on New Year’s Day with the state police making the lone county arrest at U.S. 180 and Kirtland Road. Local agencies note heightened patrols but no increases in DWIs amid a quiet holiday period. The state total recorded 16 DWIs statewide, with Farmington and Gallup each accounting for about one third of arrests.
