Eisenhower to visit Clovis for drought talks in January
President Eisenhower plans a brief three hour stop in Clovis New Mexico on January 14. About 100 accompany him including staff drought and farm officials and newsmen. A drought briefing and regional proposals for aid will be discussed with eastern New Mexico ranchers and farmers and Portales Chamber of Commerce plans a meeting to follow. The tour will cover 15 to 30 miles due to time limits.

Eight Alpinists Rescued From Mt Blanc After 12 Day Ordeal

West McGaffey Residents Press Commission For Roads
After Cecil Johnson was elected chairman the West McGaffey area residents sought road and drainage work. Sixteen property owners along McGaffey Street west of Sunset Avenue pressed the county commissioners for culvert drainage and flood control projects to aid bus routes serving about 75 children daily. The commission approved early action on a culvert and set plans to start road work within 30 days on the three miles west of Sunset and four miles on Brown Road. They accepted the resignation of W. Claud Parr as county road foreman and moved to halt transporting workers to and from home except for the foreman. Details of transport for crews to distant points will be worked out. Page 19.
