The Bond Issue League won by about 23 to 1 amid calls to pledge funds to fight Sunday closing and prohibition. Executive officers from both groups reported large participation and noted irregularities in Fifth ward and a rushed poll closure as the election appeared more like ratification.
Mrs A C Wilson entertained day friends yesterday afternoon in a compliment to Miss Elizabeth Yoder who will wed Dr McClaughan of Omaha. Guests enjoyed books fancywork and conversation with refreshments served.

George Newton about forty died yesterday morning at 925 North Main of diabetes after moving here with his wife to make Ros his home. The body was shipped to his Illinois home this morning, accompanied by the widow.
Jesse Heard, returning from his brother Joel Heard's funeral in Pecos City, Tex, reports that Joel's sudden death was by taking strychnine while temporarily deranged by brain trouble. He had told a friend he planned to kill himself, and was found with the poison bottle in his hand. Friends deeply regret the untimely end.
Chicago February 21 The United States Brewers Association and the U S Masters Association unite in a campaign against prohibition and temperance movements as they raise funds for wartime aims.
In Hutchinson Kansas on February 21 Democrats met in a state convention to choose delegates for the Denver national convention. They endorsed William Jennings Bryan for President and instructed all delegates to vote for him. Congressional districts each selected two delegates, and a large demonstration followed.

Washington February 21 The Comptroller of the Currency issued a call for statements of condition from all national banks as of the close of business on February 14.

Governor Johnson replied to Congressman Stevens that he has no plans to travel to Washington before May 14 for the governors conference on conservation. If travel becomes necessary before that date he would be glad to accept the invitation to a complimentary nonpartisan dinner in Washington in his honor.
Three propositions offer options in Cumberland New Mexico. Option one provides five acres of fruit trees that are irrigated and cultivated with pruning, at $100 cash plus $25 monthly for 36 months. For several days workmen have remodeled Kipling's Kandy Kitchen interior adding a new floor fretted ceiling and walls. The candy maker has been busy preparing to open with finer stock than ever, reflecting a notable improvement in appearance and offerings.

Chicago on February 21 reports a Lincoln Centenary Association forming to celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birth on February 12, 1989. Charter members include Chicago’s leading professionals and businessmen. They propose a week of events and a permanent temple of patriotism with a target of raising a million dollars nationwide through dollar contributions.
Local railroad officials report no further word on a proposed passenger train schedule change rumored to take effect February 18. Employees have requested a change, but no response has been received.
At the last meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church officers were elected for the ensuing year. President is Mrs. Wm. H. Pope, First Vice President Mrs. A. C. Wilson, Second Vice President Mrs. H. F. M. Bear, Secretary Mrs. Elza White, Treasurer Miss Marie Holt, Purveyor Mrs. C. C. Martin. The society thanks Mrs. Hayslip for two years of leadership.
In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania on February 21 a large ice fall struck the cage hood as ten miners were lowered into the Stanton mine. Two men died instantly and another perished en route to the nospika while three others suffer critical injuries.
