City will host the eleventh annual convention of the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers in Roswell with about 200 attendees from most New Mexico communities. Registration Friday, open sessions, and exhibits run at Roswell High School with talks by national and state engineers. The banquet and ball are planned for Saturday at Elks Ballroom, with installation of new officers and remarks by R. J. Rhinehart.

Portales property owners approved a 350000 dollar school bond by 44 votes. The bonds fund a new high school, in the heaviest turnout ever in a Portales district election, with 784 votes for and 740 against.
