Anderson Sees Increased Uranium Output By New Mexico

U. S. Senator Clinton P. Anderson forecast an eighty million dollar investment and a potential one hundred sixty million dollars in annual uranium production in New Mexico. He spoke to the State House of Representatives noting education funding and growth in small businesses around atomic facilities. He urged considering thorium and rare earths in tax changes.

Agencies to Close on Washington Birthday Observance

County clerk health probate judge and treasurer offices will close all day tomorrow February 22 in observance of George Washington birthday anniversary. They will reopen Monday morning February 25. District clerk also closes tomorrow but will reopen Saturday for district court matters.

Braceros long trek ends in Artesia jail

A 23 year old bracero, Aurelio Beruman Felix, admitted illegally entering the United States after a 200 mile foot trek from El Paso to Artesia. Detained on a vagrancy charge, he will be turned over to immigration authorities. He previously worked in the area about two years ago.

Engineers Head For City NSPE President Arrives Today

Pine Bluff native Robert J. Rhinehart, national NSPE president, arrives in Roswell for the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers convention. He will address the final banquet at the Elks Ballroom and attend Saturday sessions at the Little Theater and senior high school. Continental Air Lines also announces a six percent fare hike effective April 15.

Ike Appears To Have Cast Sanctions Die

President Eisenhower urged U.N. sanctions on Israel in a radio television broadcast. He said the United Nations must pressure Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and Gulf of Aqaba as the U.N. General Assembly prepared a vote. Ben Gurion was to reply today while Israel and Egypt discussed the Canal crisis with U.S. officials.

Two Truck Bills Introduced In New Mexico House

In Santa Fe two measures change truck registration fee schedules and propose a mileage tax for trucks. One bill lowers fees for many pickup owners affected by 1955 changes. the other would revert to a mileage tax from 18 000 pounds upward, from six to 24 mills per mile. Sponsors are Rep.
