Today marks the final day of the Boy Scout Anniversary Week in Roswell. Local area executive W. Thorson praised the program's success and cooperation. A Scout demonstration was held at Junior High and previously at Senior High with participants Tommy St. John, J. H. Weaver, and Sam Johnson, and a canvass found about 60 percent of boys in both schools are Scouts.
Former New Mexico governor Herbert J. Hagerman attended the funeral of Mrs. Chas. Mr. de Bremond today. He then returned to Santa Fe this afternoon.
The Roswell Merchants Association holds its regular monthly meeting at the Nickson Hotel tonight at 1 30 with a dinner at 6 30. The program includes nominating committee reports and officer elections plus talks on taxation by Dr. Austin D Crile and Edward C Gessert. Committee members are C J Stilwell, H G Moberly, Hial Cobean, Wesley Foster and R B Sanders.
Marathon Texas February 14 AP Paul Vair a Kelly Field student near San Antonio was killed instantly when his aircraft crashed half a mile east of Marathon. He was eastbound at noon after aloft over the town his motor failed the plane dived from about 500 feet the pilot’s neck broken the craft did not burn another Kelly Field pilot landed at the scene and arrangements were made to transport Vair’s body to San Antonio
U S Game Man Hero B R Britton with headquarters in Socorro arrived from Albuquerque for a few days work in Roswell. He reports the road in good condition except for a few miles just this side of Vaughn.
Skousen Bros contractors on the highway job west of Border Hill seek ten Fresno teamsters. Report at Border Hill top tonight to start tomorrow. Must be registered on county employment committee lists or register with Lake J. Frazier and others at the Chamber of Commerce.
Dr George W Crile renowned Cleveland surgeon attended a Cleveland luncheon honoring Prof Auguste Piccard the Belgian scientist who first entered the stratosphere. Piccard tours the United States with his twin Jean Piccard joined by Dr Dayton C Miller and Dr Kile or Piccard in the photo.
Senator Borah of Idaho warned there is a revolution in the country and urged the Senate to sidetrack the Blaine prohibition repeal and press emergency legislation before March 4. He cited courts thwarted by force in Pennsylvania, Idaho, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa, and said farmers await action.
The Roswell Kiwanis weekly meeting featured a Boy Scout program with Scoutmaster Sgt Duthie praising Troop 4 and Cub Pack 1 as outstanding this year. 28 Scouts in Troop 4 and 56 Cubs in Pack 1. Will Purdy presented Sergeant Duthie the President Hoover award for 1932. Eagle Scout J H Weaver from U S Grant Council Illinois spoke on the international jamboree with 50,000 Scouts from 52 nations. Weaver is a cadet at New Mexico Military Institute. Mil ton S Heiss of Kiwanis International praised Roswell’s record and noted a upcoming Eastern New Mexico Scout Council banquet next Friday. Heiss then headed to Los Angeles for Kiwanis International convention plans.
In Leticia region fighting erupts as Colombia and Peru exchange air and ground fire. Alfredo Vasquez Cobo, commanding Colombian forces, says Peruvian bombers hit the gunboat Cordoba on the Puramayo river and that Peruvian planes dropped bombs over Cordoba, with the first falling in Brazilian waters as crowds react with loud applause.
Governor Comstock declares an acute financial emergency and orders banks in Michigan closed for eight days from February 14 to 21, affecting 550 banks and trusts. Ford and Guardian Union tied to the crisis, with withdrawals eyed to cover payrolls. federal reserves move gold to Detroit vaults amid rumors suppression.
Judge James Beb McGhee names J W Dudley Fred Miller and F L Mehlhop of Roswell and Dexter to form a jury commission to select 690 qualified jurors for the district court jury wheel for the April term. The panel meets Friday at nine to begin duties. Civil docket set for two weeks starting February 27 with 28 dismissals and 59 trials. Alvin E Howard sentenced to 3 to 4 years in the state penitentiary for uttering a forged instrument.
In Santa Fe on February 14, an AP report states the senate recalled a bill reducing the penalty for non rendition of property for taxation from 25 to five percent. Sources say Governor Arthur Seligman prompted the move to require amendments so it would apply to the 1933 return.
From St Marys hospital comes news that Miss Noma Foreman has rallied well after an appendicitis operation yesterday and is progressing satisfactorily this afternoon. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George L Foreman.
Mrs C E Boothe departed Roswell on the afternoon train to Bloomington Illinois where she was summoned by the serious illness of her mother.

He cites a bid requirement and disallowed shoe and coal buys. Albuquerque Feb 14 Former Gov Hannett warns of collapse without a sales tax. says schools may close by December 1 1933 and salaries stop if not enacted. attacks party leadership and debenture bill.
Santa Fe AP report on February 14 outlines the need to upgrade the sewage system at Albuquerque Girls Welfare Home. Superintendent Florence Perkinson asked 1200 dollars for improvements while committee weighs connecting to the city system two miles away, estimated at 7000 dollars. Home requests 48000 for year one and 43500 for year two in the next biennium. Gov. Seligman proposes 37500 per year.
The Sunshine State Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans passed a resolution opposing any change to the veterans tax exemption law in New Mexico and sent telegrams to Chaves county state legislators. Telegrams also ordered to protest cancellation of several disability claims and urge investigation. A large Roswell meeting heard Lake J. Frazier speak on veterans benefits and a plan to obtain clothing for local veterans from the government.

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles M. de Bremond were held at ten o’clock this morning at the family home east of Roswell with Rev. Fredrick B. Howden Jr. in charge. Burial was made at South Park beside her husband, Colonel de Bremond, who died here in 1927. Casket bearers were E. A. Cahoon, D. H. Galloway, Ben Ames, H. M. Dow, Arthur Stevens, Major G. L. Erwin and E. L. Scarritt. Bynum Ballard directing.
